Rohit Sharma-led Indian have so far ticked all the boxes which makes them the strongest contender to lift the ongoing T20 World Cup trophy. Currently they are sitting on top of the Group 2' points table as they have won three out of four matches played so far in the T20 World Cup 2022.

India, who won the inaugural T20 World Cup, way back in 2007, are looking to end the 15 year-drought and bring home the glory this time around.

Since the 2013 Champions Trophy, the Men in Blue are yet to win an ICC trophy, despite advancing to the semi-finals and finals of a number of tournaments.

India, captained by Rohit Sharma, are currently on the verge of advancing to the semi-final of the multi-nation event, having already beaten Pakistan, Netherlands and Bangladesh. Sharma’s men lost to Temba Bavuma’s South Africa, but their fate in their hands itself.

If Team India manages to get the better of Zimbabwe on Sunday (November 6) at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, they will make it to the T20 World Cup semifinals.

Meanwhile, India's veteran batter Shikhar Dhawan, who will be leading the Men in Blue in the upcoming ODI series against New Zealand, talked up Rohit Sharma's men's chances of lifting the T20 World Cup yet again. Dhawan was also of the opinion that players need to perform collectively for India to win a major tournament.

"Of course they have to play good cricket and everyone knows their role. The team wins when everyone performs well because you can't win a championship on one person's form. Everyone is doing well and it is a good sign for the Indian team. They need to make less mistakes and control the momentum. You need to control the nerves. It's all about the pressure game,” Dhawan was quoted as saying on the India Today Conclave.

Dhawan is also expected to play a key role when India take part in the 50-over World Cup next year at home. India's star southpaw will be seen leading the side in the ODIs just like he did against West Indies back in the month of August.

The New Zealand tour shall start five days after the T20 World Cup final from November 18 onwards. The Indian team will be missing the services of main players like Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and KL Rahul throughout both the T20I and ODI series.
