Indian skipper Virat Kohli has hinted at India's new T20I captain as he leads the side in the format for the last time against Namibia. Kohli gave a clear indication that veteran opener Rohit Sharma is to be India's new captain going forward.
“It's time for the next lot to take the team forward. Rohit has been looking on anyway, and Indian cricket is in good hands,” Kohli said after winning the toss in his 50th game as T20I captain.
The 33-year-old made just one change in the side for the dead rubber giving a chance to leg-spinner Rahul Chahar in place of Varun Chakravarthy. Looking back at India's performances in the Super 12 stage, Kohli also talked about the toss factor as he said, "The tosses have been a big factor, and when I've won a couple we'll do what we wanted to do from Day 1.
Before the Namibia clash, Kohli has had a winning percentage of 63.82 with 31 wins including two in the super over.
“It's been an honour to captain India and I've done my best. The shortest format has to give way for the longer formats. I've been grateful for the opportunity,” the leading T20I run-scorer added.
