Skipper Harmanpreet Kaur gave India a massive injury scare during her team's victory over Pakistan in the ICC Women's T20 World Cup 2024 on October 6. Despite narrowly escaping a stumping, Kaur appeared to have sprained her neck.

Harmanpreet Kaur's injury, a big setback for India women

Unable to continue batting due to the injury, Kaur retired hurt, leaving her team needing just two more runs to win. Her replacement, S Sajana, finished the job for India. Harmanpreet ended up scoring 29 off 24 balls riding on one four before leaving the field. With just two runs needed to win from the final 16 balls, Kaur attempted a risky shot to secure the victory. However, her attempt to hit a late cut resulted in a loss of balance and a fall outside the crease. During this incident, Kaur injured her neck, forcing her to retire hurt. India's victory over Pakistan was sealed by Sajana Sajeevan, who came in as a replacement for the injured Harmanpreet Kaur. Sajeevan's powerful shot over extra cover off Nida Dar's wide delivery secured the win for India with seven balls to spare.

India return to winning ways after jolt in campaign opener

The six-wicket victory over Pakistan has kept India's hopes alive in the T20 World Cup 2024, following their earlier defeat to New Zealand. Kaur's injury, however, raises concerns for the team's future prospects in the tournament.

Pakistan struggle against India's bowling

Pakistan's batting lineup faced a tough challenge against India's disciplined bowling attack. Despite Nida Dar's 28-run knock, Pakistan struggled to build partnerships and were consistently under pressure.

India's off-spinner Shreyanka Patil and medium-pacer Arundhati Reddy were particularly effective, claiming five wickets between them. The Indian bowlers maintained a tight line and length, restricting Pakistan's scoring opportunities.

Pakistan's innings ended with a disappointing total of 105/8. Despite a brief wobble in the middle overs, India's batting lineup displayed resilience and composure to chase down the target. The team's disciplined approach and effective batting ensured a comfortable victory over Pakistan.

India women will next face Sri Lanka on October 9 and then lock horns with defending champions Australia on October 13.
