The Indian women's team is undoubtedly driven to emulate the achievements of Rohit Sharma and company by winning the mega tournament and making history in Indian cricket as they prepare for their opening match against New Zealand in the T20 World Cup 2024. Star Indian batter Jemimah Rodrigues reminisced about watching the men's team compete against South Africa in the Barbados final and the excitement of watching the boys win the championship.

Jemimah Rodrigues speaks on their motivation

"I remember watching the men’s final. We had a Test match against South Africa, and on Day 3, we stayed up until 12 or 1:30 in the night watching the match. I remember that moment clearly. We’ve always dreamt of winning the World Cup, but seeing them win just before our World Cup made it feel so much more real," Jemimah said to Star Sports.

Observing the Men's team win everything will inspire the Women's squad. Jemimah reflected on the occasion when everyone in the Indian women's camp went silent.

“That desire and passion to win was ignited when we saw Rohit Sharma and the team lifting the trophy. A few of us were in the room, and we’re usually a talkative bunch, especially me, but when that happened, we all fell silent,” she added.

Following the men's team's victory, the women's squad started to envision themselves maybe accomplishing the same for women's cricket. However, the side is currently putting all of their attention into the here and now and trying their best.

“I knew everyone was thinking, ‘When will our time come? How will it feel to see Harry Di lift the World Cup with us in the background?’ I don’t want to think too much about the result, honestly. The dream is there, but we’re focusing more on the process and what we need to do. We’ll let God take care of the result,” Jemimah said

The Indian women's team's T20 World Cup 2024 campaign will kick off against New Zealand. Group A, which includes the likes of Australia, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka in addition to the Harmanpreet Kaur-led team, is shaping up to be an interesting set of matches.
