Australia's dominance in the Women's T20 World Cup 2024 continued with a convincing nine-wicket victory over Pakistan on Friday in Dubai on October 11. This win solidified their position at the top of Group A, having won all three of their matches.

Australia's unbeaten run in Women's T20 World Cup continues

Their impressive net run rate of +2.786 puts them in a strong position to qualify for the semi-finals, surpassing India and New Zealand.

Batting first, Pakistan struggled to build momentum, being bowled out for a disappointing total of 82 runs in 19.5 overs. They recorded the lowest score by a team in the first 10 overs of any match in the tournament, and their slow start made them appear lost at times.

Ashleigh Gardner's four-fer dismantles Pakistan

Apart from Aliya Riaz, who contributed 26 runs, none of the Pakistani batters could effectively counter the Australian bowling attack. Ashleigh Gardner was particularly impressive, taking four wickets. Annabel Sutherland and Georgia Wareham also made significant contributions with two wickets each.

Sophie Molineux provided an early breakthrough for Australia, dismissing Muneeba Ali. Megan Schutt's wicket of Nida Dar helped her surpass Nida as the all-time leading wicket-taker in Women's T20Is. The absence of Pakistan captain Fatima Sana was keenly felt, as her strike rate against India and Sri Lanka was over 150.

Australia's chase was expected to be a straightforward task, and they made a strong start, scoring 46 runs in the powerplay despite losing the wicket of Beth Mooney. Sadia Iqbal, the world's No. 1 T20I bowler at the time, managed to dismiss Mooney.

Alyssa Healy took charge of the innings, accelerating the run rate and neutralizing the Pakistani bowling attack. She scored 37 runs from 23 balls before retiring hurt due to a calf injury. By that point, Australia needed only 14 runs from 65 balls to secure the victory.

Alyssa Healy's Australia will next face Harmanpreet Kaur-led Team India on October 13 while Pakistan will face New Zealand in their upcoming Women's T20 World Cup clash on October 14.
