The 13th edition of the Women's World Cup is scheduled to start from September 30, with India and Sri Lanka are the hosts of the mega event. Hosts India and Sri Lanka will take on each other in the tournament opener at Barsapara Stadium in Guwahati. Defending champions Australia will take on New Zealand to start their campaign at the mega event, which will take place the next day at Holkar Stadium in Madhya Pradesh.
India will take on Pakistan in their second Group Stage clash, which will take place on October 5 at R. Premadasa International Cricket Stadium, Colombo, Sri Lanka. All matches featuring Pakistan will take place in Sri Lanka and the venue for the final also depends on Pakistan's qualification; if they reach the title decider, it will take place in Colombo. Otherwise, Navi Mumbai will host the grand finale.
Ahead of the mega event, here are the players who scored the most runs in the history of the Women's ODI World Cup, where New Zealand batter Debbie Hockley tops the tally with 1501 runs in 45 matches of the mega event. Former India captain Mithali Raj comes second in the list with 1321 runs (38 games, avg. 47.17), followed by Jan Brittin (1299), Charlotte Edwards (1231), and Suzie Bates (1179).
1. Debbie Hockley: 1501 Runs
New Zealand cricketing legend Debbie Hockley tops the tally; she represented the side in 118 ODIs and became the first woman to score over 4000 runs in the format. She played 45 World Cup matches, scoring 1501 runs at an average of 42.88, with two centuries. In 2016, she made history as New Zealand Cricket’s first female president.
2. Mithali Raj: 1321 Runs
Former India captain Mithali Raj who made her debut at 16 and quickly made an impact with a century in her first ODI. She went on to become the highest run-scorer in women’s ODIs, known for her steady, anchoring batting style. In 38 World Cup games, she scored 1321 runs, leading India to two finals as captain.
3. Jan Brittin: 1299 Runs
Jan Brittin comes second in the tally as the England batter played 63 ODIs and scored 2121 runs. She played 36 World Cup matches and amassed 1299 runs, including four centuries. Her ability to build innings calmly made her a vital cog in England’s middle order.
4. Charlotte Edwards: 1231 Runs
Another England star, Charlotte Edwards, who made her debut at 16, smashed 173* in a World Cup match. She played 30 World Cup games, scored 1231 runs at an average above 50, with four centuries. She captained England in their 2009 World Cup win
5. Suzie Bates: 1179 Runs
New Zealand's legendary multi-talented athlete, Suzie Bates, also comes in the tally as she played 27 World Cup matches, scoring 1179 runs at an impressive average and strike rate. She balanced basketball and cricket before focusing fully on leading the White Ferns.
6. Belinda Clark: 1151 Runs
Belinda Clark was a standout player for Australia, scoring 1151 runs in 29 World Cup matches at an average above 60. She made history with a record 229* and led Australia to two World Cup titles, including an unbeaten campaign in 2005.
7. Karen Rolton: 974 Runs
Karen Rolton was a key figure in Australia’s World Cup success, scoring 974 runs in 28 matches at an average of nearly 75. She scored three centuries, including a match-winning hundred in the 2005 final.
8. Meg Lanning: 948 Runs
Meg Lanning is one of the consistent performers for the defending champions. She also comes in the tally with 948 runs in 22 World Cups. She made history as Australia’s youngest centaurion
9. Harmanpreet Kaur: 876 Runs
Current India captain Harmanpreet Kaur also comes in the tally with 76 runs with a high strike rate. Her iconic 171* in the 2017 semi-final is one of the greatest innings in women’s cricket that helped India to seal the berth for the grand finale.
10. Claire Taylor: 856 Runs
Claire Taylor scored 856 runs in 19 World Cup matches, including three centuries. The calm and composed batter was awarded Player of the Tournament in 2009 and played a vital role in England’s World Cup triumph.
