From fighting for recognition to reaching the very pinnacle of women’s cricket, they have been through it all. And it’s captain Harmanpreet Kaur who seals the victory in style. De Klerk swings at a full toss, slicing it into the air, and Harmanpreet leaps at extra cover to take a brilliant catch, her hands meeting the ball perfectly, a fitting end to a historic campaign.

This is a surreal feeling as the DJ in Navi Mumbai started playing Vande Mataram, team India is emotional, teary eyed Rohit was also seen cheering for the Women in Blue. 

Harmanpreet Kaur-led India proved why they are the best in the tournament as they defeated South Africa by 52 runs in the title decider. The trophy will stay in India. Raw emotions here in the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai. What a great campaign by Women in Blue. 

India beat Australia by 52 runs to win the Women's ODI World Cup 2025. 

Hold your breath, India are just five overs away from their maiden silverware. Well, Shree Charani conceded six extras. Nadine de Klerk is still fighting hard here in Navi Mumbai. It was a wicket maiden over by Shafali. India are making a comeback in the finale. The Women in Blue need to plan something to remove Laura Wolvaardt as she is set and holds the talent to power their team to the World Cup win. 

Another batter bites the dust as Sune Luus departed after scoring 25 runs. It was Shafali Varma who caught and bowled the Proteas batter as India. The Women in Blue are working hard for the comeback. FYI, Shafali joined India's squad before the semifinal clash of the mega event.

Did you know Amanjot had an injury scare before the World Cup, and she refused to reveal it to her parents, fearing stress and anxiety. Before the start of the game today, when she was asked about the rehabilitation, she said that she lied to her parents that she was going to the BCCI's high-performance camp. Notably, Amanjot is India's best fielder so far in the ODI World Cup and her direct hit removed Brits.

Shafali Varma's brilliant 87-run knock and Deepti Sharma's composed half-century to post a challenging 298/6 against South Africa in the Women's World Cup final. After being asked to bat in a two-hour delayed clash, India were off to a flying start as Shafali and vice-captain Smriti Mandhana (45) added 104 for the opening wicket at nearly seven runs per over.

Shafali, who joined the India squad before the semifinal against Australia following Pratika Rawal’s injury, continued her dream run with her first ODI fifty in over three years before getting out on 87 off 78 balls with seven fours and two sixes.

South Africa made their comeback through Ayabonga Khaka (3/58 from nine overs) and Nonkululeko Mlaba (1/47), who triggered a middle-overs slide after India’s commanding start to deny the hosts a 300-mark.

Khaka’s twin strikes removed Shafali and Jemimah Rodrigues (24), while Mlaba dismissed skipper Harmanpreet Kaur (20) just as a partnership with Deepti Sharma was blooming.

Deepti then anchored the innings with a steady 58 off as many balls, her 18th ODI half-century and third in this tournament, adding vital runs with Richa Ghosh (34 from 24 balls) before the latter was dismissed by Khaka in the penultimate over.

India scored 298 runs in the final against South Africa, and notably, this is the second-highest total in the history of the Women's ODI World Cup final. Australia have 356, which is the highest total in the title decider of the World Cup. Well, there is something called scoreboard pressure, and if India manages to get an early breakthrough, then they will win this clash in front of the home ground. South Africa needs 299 runs to win this clash. 

Well, India is behind the below-par score of DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai as Amanjot Kaur departed on the first ball of the 44th over. Nadine de Klerk picked up a very good catch to get another breakthrough. The 22-run stand after Harmanpreet Kaur's wicket came to an end here. Richa Ghosh has joined Deepti Sharma for the big total. India captain Harmanpreet Kaur at toss: We would’ve bowled first as well, given the weather and conditions. But yeah, it’s an important game, and somehow it feels like we’re back in rhythm. Hopefully, we can bat freely and put up a strong total on the board. This one’s a little sticky (pitch) because of the rain and the overhead conditions. The outfield is slightly damp too, but I think after five or six overs it should settle down nicely. We’ll try to do the same things again - play with intent, stay positive, and back our plans. We spoke about that game that night, enjoyed the win, and then had two days to recover and reset. Everyone’s back focused now, and we’re really looking forward to this game.

South Africa captain Laura Wolvaardt at toss: Yeah, a bit of rain around, so it just feels like a nice day to chase later with a bit of movement on offer. The surface looks pretty good, and hopefully we can get a bit of swing early on with the rain we’ve had over the last couple of hours. But yeah, looks like a really good wicket overall. Definitely, we haven’t played here before, but I think we’ve been pretty good at adapting throughout the tournament. Hopefully, our bowlers can quickly assess conditions and make the most of it today. We’re unchanged today. Definitely. It’s a big day for us, but we’re just really excited about the opportunity. It’s very special playing in front of a crowd like this, so we’ll just look to enjoy every moment. Yeah, we’ll take the positives from that, but it all starts from zero again today. We’ll have to start fresh, but the confidence in the group is high,and we’ve been playing some really positive cricket.
