Jemimah Rodrigues’ first match after India’s World Cup win ends early as Brisbane Heat fall to Melbourne Renegades in WBBL

India superstar batter Jemimah Rodrigues failed to get a good start in her first outing after winning the ODI World Cup 2025 as she managed to score only six runs in Brisbane Heat’s seven-wicket loss to Melbourne Renegades in the Women’s Big Bash League

Featuring for the first time in a cricket match after the World Cup, Jemimah looked eager to make an impact but was dismissed after facing nine balls, edging Alice Capsey to Deandra Dottin at backward point.

Though her short stay at the crease may have disappointed fans, her presence brought extra excitement to the match.

Jemimah's cricketing return

Before the game, Brisbane Heat shared a video of Jemimah smiling and saying, “I am here in Brisbane, can you believe it? Very excited for today, let’s go.”

Her early dismissal came at a key moment, and Heat managed to post only 133 runs in 20 overs. Nadine de Klerk (40 off 38) and Chinelle Henry (29 off 22) tried to hold the innings together, but Renegades’ spinners dominated. Captain Georgia Wareham (3/12) and Alice Capsey (3/22) struck regularly in the middle overs, while Tess Flintoff (3/30) prevented any late recovery.

Renegades chase against Brisbane Heat

After a rain break, the Renegades chased a revised target of 66 runs in eight overs. They reached it comfortably in 7.3 overs, with Courtney Webb scoring an unbeaten 34 off 22 balls and skipper Wareham finishing on 16 not out.
