CSK, RR in talks over Ravindra Jadeja–Sanju Samson trade ahead of IPL 2026.

Former Chennai Super Kings (CSK) captain Ravindra Jadeja and Sanju Samson trade is reportedly in serious discussions ahead of the retention deadlines for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026. In recent times, there were talks about the potential swap that have moved beyond rumours and into active negotiations.

Cricbuzz reported that the CSK and RR are seriously pursuing the trade ahead of the upcoming edition of the cash-rich league.

What RR wants from CSK as Sanju Samson's replacement

Notably, both Jadeja and Samson are  INR 18 crore players and the deal could well have been sealed by now. However, as per Cricbuzz, the inagural IPL champions are not yet agreeable to a straight swap. The franchise is believed to be insisting on the inclusion of another player, which could eventually prove to be the sticking point.

Why the Deal Hasn’t Gone Through Yet?

Apart from CSK, other IPL franchises, including Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), Delhi Capitals (DC) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). The report further stated that the deal-breaker over the CSK-RR deal, it is understood, is the latter's demand for Dewald Brevis, the South African who came into the CSK ranks midway last season.

After his impressive outing in the cash-rich league, the Proteas star became one of the top batters in the global franchise circuit. He even attracted a record bid from Pretoria Capitals at the SA20 auction in September, with Jo'burg Super Kings, a subsidiary of CSK, backing out only before the winning bid.

Cricbuzz also reported that Manoj Badale, the UK-based lead owner of Rajasthan Royals who is currently in Mumbai, is heading their negotiations. However, the five-time champions are firm in their insistence, and they are not willing to include another player in the transaction, let alone Brevis.

When will franchises announce their retention list for IPL 2026?

The Indian Premier League broadcaster announced that all Indian Premier League (IPL)  franchises will announce their lists of retained and released players on November 15.
