Story Highlights:

Here is a look at India's performance in every edition of Women's ODI World Cup

Team India reached the tournament's final in 2005 and 2017

Team India haven't won the Women's ODI World Cup in the 12 editions of the tournament that have so far been held. The competition first took place in 1973 and though the Women in Blue are regarded as one of the strongest teams in the modern era, they have only made the final twice so far. Let's have a look at India's performance in each and every edition of the ODI World Cup:

Women's World Cup, 1973

The Indian team wasn't a part of the first edition of the tournament that was held 52 years back. A total of 7 teams participated in the tournament, but the Indian team wasn't among the participants. England eventually went on to win the tournament after defeating Australia in the final.

Women's World Cup, 1978

Though India did participate in the international tournament, they weren't able to record a victory in any of their three matches. They lost to the likes of England, New Zealand and Australia which saw them get knocked out from the tournament. Australia were the eventual winners as they defeated England in the final.

Women's World Cup, 1982

A total of five teams participated in the third edition of the tournament and India ended up finishing fourth on the points table. They finished with 16 points from 12 matches, winning a total of four matches. Australia handed England a three-wicket defeat to England in the final to win the World Cup for the second consecutive time.

Women's World Cup, 1988

Despite taking part in the last two editions of the tournament, Team India weren't among the participants of the fourth edition of the tournament. The likes of Australia, England, New Zealand, Ireland and Netherlands were the only teams that participated in the tournament. Australia went on to defeat England in the final.

Women's World Cup, 1993

The Indian team finished fourth on the points table in the fifth edition of the tournament with 16 points from 7 matches. They won four matches in the competition. England were the eventual winners, defeating New Zealand in the final.

Women's World Cup, 1997

The Indian team qualified for the knockouts after finishing second in Group B behind New Zealand. However, they were eventually defeated by Australia in the semi-final, who then went on to defeat New Zealand in the final.

Women's World Cup, 2000

The Indian team once again qualified for the semi-finals after finishing third in the league stage. However, their campaign would be brought to an end by New Zealand, who then went on to defeat Australia in the final to win their first-ever World Cup.

Women's World Cup, 2005

The Women in Blue performed brilliantly in the tournament and finished the league stage on the second position. They would end up making it all the way to the final for the first time in their history, but were handed a defeat by Australia, who won their  fifth World Cup title.

Women's World Cup, 2009

India once again impressed in the group stages and finished second in Group B, but missed out on the final by a whisker as they finished third in the Super six. They would defeat Australia in the third place playoff, but the eventual champions would be England, who defeated New Zealand in the final.

Women's World Cup, 2013

Despite being the hosts of the mega tournament, India failed to qualify for the Super 6 after their disastrous performance in the group stage. They finished last in Group A after losing two out of their three matches. The eventual champions of the competition would once again be Australia, who defeated West Indies in the final.

Women's World Cup, 2017

Despite their fantastic performance throughout the mega tournament, the 11th edition of the World Cup only provided more heartbreak for the Indian team. They ended up making the final for the second time in their history, but were eventually defeated by hosts England.

Women's World Cup, 2022

India failed to make it to the semi-finals of the mega tournament after finishing fifth in the league stage with only six points from seven matches. It was another forgetful World Cup campaign for the Women in Blue. Australia would eventually go on to win the competition by defeating England in the final.
