India defeated South Africa by 52 runs to win maiden Women's ODI World Cup 2025.

Amanjot Kaur took a crucial catch to remove set Laura Wolvaardt.

India star all-rounder Amanjot Kaur clinched the best fielder of the match medal for her exceptional fielding skills display during the ICC Women's World Cup 2025 final against South Africa at DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai. Amanjot ran out the South African opener Tazmin Brits, who helped the Women in Blue to get the first breakthrough in the title decider.

After that, she took a stunning catch of the South Africa captain, Laura Wolvaardt, who was single-handedly guiding her side towards the win and was the leading run scorer of the Women's Cricket World Cup 2025. Notably, that catch shifted the momentum of the game as India's years-long dream of capturing the ICC Women's World Cup finally came to an end after two heartbreaks in the 2005 and 2017 finals, as they defeated South Africa by 52 runs in a clinical performance at the title decider.

India vs South Africa Women's ODI World Cup final match report

After defeating Australia in the semifinal clash, Harmanpreet Kaur-led India were confident before the title decider. After being asked to bat in the final, India managed to score 298 for 7 in 50 overs. Ayabonga Khaka was the pick of the bowlers for South Africa, taking three wickets for 58 runs.

While chasing, South Africa skipper Laura Wolvaardt anchored the innings with a century, and almost shifted the momentum of the game, but Deepti Sharma got rid of her and picked another wicket in the same over to dent South Africa's hopes of winning the silverware. Deepti became the first Indian woman to take four wickets in a World Cup final and later completed her five-wicket haul, finishing with figures of 5 for 39.
