Australia's two-time ODI World Cup-winning all-rounder Glenn Maxwell picked the all-time Big 3 (India, Australia and England) combined all-time ODI XI. Maxwell had initially picked David Warner as one of the openers but later had to replace him with Sachin Tendulkar as he could pick only five Australian players in the combined Big 3 ODI XI. Also, he did not pick a single Englishman
Maxwell was given five options to choose from for the opening spot. Apart from Warner, he had picked Rohit Sharma.
“Rohit Sharma has pretty good stats. he’s got three double hundreds. 32 hundreds, averages 48, struck at 92 (strike rate). And I’m going to go Davey (David Warner) – average 45, strike-rate 97, 22 hundreds. Two pretty clear openers,” Maxwell told Fox Cricket in a video. “Could’ve gone with Sachin, but I’m going to go right-left (combination) to start.”
At no.3, he picked his former Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) teammate Virat Kohli straightaway followed by Ricky Ponting and Michael Bevan. For the wicketkeeper spot, he picked MS Dhoni over Adam Gilchrist and Jos Buttler.
He picked Shane Watson as the first all-rounder, calling him 'underrated" in all departments of the game.
In the bowling department, he went with Jasprit Bumrah, Glenn McGrath and Anil Kumble. Then, he wanted to pick Brett Lee but the five Australian players in the side rule prevented him from doing that. After a little confusion, he struck off Warner’s name, replacing him with Tendulkar and then named Lee as the third pacer.
“I might have to get rid of Davey. Davey goes, Sachin’s in. To be fair, Sachin’s got three times the runs,” Maxwell said with a chuckle.

Maxwell out of action
Maxwell is on the sidelines as he suffered a wrist injury while bowling to Mitchell Owen in the nets on New Zealand tour. He had surgery on his wrist and is currently doing his rehabilitation. Retired from ODIs, he won’t feature in the first two T20Is of the five-T20I series against India later this month. It is yet to be seen whether he returns to action for the last three T20Is of the series.
