Mitchell Marsh-led Australia will be without the services of their star leg-spinner Adam Zampa and wicketkeeper-batter Josh Inglis for the first ODI of the three-ODI series against India. For the series opener at Perth Stadium, Australia have added left-arm spinner Matthew Kuhnemann and wicketkeeper-batter Josh Philippe as their replacements.
Zampa will miss the first ODI due to family reasons. Meanwhile, Inglis is yet to regain full fitness after a calf strain ruled him out of the T20I series against New Zealand.
Will Philippe, Kuhnemann feature in Australia’s playing XI vs India?
Philippe who was called up to the white-ball squad last month is yet to play an ODI since his debut series in July 2021. As Alex Carey will be playing a Sheffield Shield match to prepare for the Ashes 2025-26, Philippe is set to keep wickets for the first time in ODIs.
Philippe recently scored a blazing 123 in a first-class match against India A in Lucknow. The India A bowling attack in that fixture featured the likes of Prasidh Krishna and Khaleel Ahmed.
Kuhnemann's last ODI appearance was against was in June 2022. It will be interesting to see whether Marsh will go with Kuhnemann or all-rounder Cooper Connolly who recent claimed a five-wicket haul against South Africa at home.
