Former Australian spinner Brad Hogg has called on Sanju Samson's father, Vishwanath, to apologise to Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, MS Dhoni, and Rahul Dravid for his recent controversial comments. Hogg believes that Vishwanath's remarks were unnecessary and could potentially put additional pressure on his son.
Sanju Samson's father asked to apologise for controversial remark on Rohit, Virat, Dhoni, Dravid
Hogg emphasized the stature of the four cricketers mentioned and highlighted the potential negative impact of such comments on Sanju Samson's career. He suggested that an apology from Vishwanath could help alleviate the pressure on his son and allow him to focus on his cricket.
Sanju Samson has recently made a significant impact on the Indian cricket team, particularly in the T20I format. His back-to-back centuries at the top of the order have solidified his position in the team.
However, amidst this success, his father, Vishwanath Samson, made some controversial statements. He accused several prominent Indian cricketers, including MS Dhoni, Virat Kohli, Rahul Dravid, and Rohit Sharma, of hindering his son's career for a decade. Vishwanath claimed that these players did not provide Sanju Samson with adequate opportunities and that this lack of support negatively impacted his career. He expressed pride in how his son overcame these challenges and emerged stronger than ever.
In a video posted on his official YouTube channel, former Australian cricketer Brad Hogg expressed his disapproval of Sanju Samson's father's comments about Indian cricketing legends.
"Sanju Samson's father coming out and saying to the public that Dhoni, Kohli, Rohit Sharma and Dravid have held his career back 10 years is not the ideal situation that you want to be in. They are four big names in Indian cricket. They've had a lot of success," Brad Hogg said.
Hogg further emphasized that Vishwanath's comments could have unintended consequences, potentially adding unnecessary pressure to Sanju Samson. He suggested that Vishwanath should issue a public apology to Rahul Dravid, MS Dhoni, Virat Kohli, and Rohit Sharma to mitigate the negative impact of his remarks.
"Sanju Samson is a fantastic player. He's starting to cement his place in that Indian team. He's made two hundreds in a row after it. I just feel that comments like these from the family put too much pressure on Sanju Samson moving forward. I think there's got to be an apology made and this is for the benefit of Sanju Samson's career as well."
Hogg concluded by advising Sanju Samson to focus on his cricket and let his performances on the field speak for themselves. He emphasized that after years of consistently performing for the Rajasthan Royals in the IPL, Samson has finally earned his place in the Indian team. Now, it's time for him to capitalize on this opportunity and prove his worth with the bat.
"He's established himself in the IPL. He's the captain of Rajasthan Royals. There have been quality players, quality batsmen, who have all lined up for India. It's very hard to break in there. So, you've got to break the process. You can't control what the selectors or what's in the selectors' minds. So, for me, when it comes to situations like this, keep the mouth shut and just let the bat do the talking," Hogg concluded.
What did the Sanju Samson's father say on Kohli, Rohit, Dhoni and Dravid?
A video featuring Sanju Samson's father circulated widely on social media, where he was seen making serious allegations against former Indian captains Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, MS Dhoni, and head coach Rahul Dravid. He claimed that these four star cricketers hindered his son's career for ten years by denying him adequate opportunities in the Indian national team. However, it's important to note that SportsTak has not confirmed the authenticity of the video.
"There are 3-4 people who wasted 10 years of my son's vital career...captains like Dhoni ji, Virat [Kohli] ji, Rohit [Sharma] ji and coach [Rahul] Dravid ji. These four people destroyed 10 years of my son's life but the more they hurt him, the stronger Sanju came out of the crisis," said Sanju Samson's father in the viral video.
"What hurt me really bad was comments from [Kris Srikkanth], the player from Tamil Nadu. I don't know what he has played. To this day, that individual has not spoken a good word of encouragement about my son, but has hurt him a lot with his words." he said.
"He said - 'against whom did Sanju score a century? It was only Bangladesh,'. People have been saying he [Srikkanth] was a great player but I haven't seen it. Century is a century, and that guy has scored only 26 runs against Bangladesh. Sanju has scored a hundred and he is a player with a classical touch like Sachin Tendulkar and Rahul Dravid. At least respect that!" he further added.
