ICC Test Rankings: Jasprit Bumrah becomes no.1 bowler again, Virat Kohli jumps 9 places as Aussies slip after Perth drubbing

Indian players got a major boost in ICC Test rankings after a dominating 295-run win over Australia at Perth Stadium in Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 opener.

Highlights:

After eight-wicket haul, Jasprit Bumrah rises to no.1 in Test rankings.

Marnus Labuschagne and Steve Smith slipped after disappointing scores in Perth.

Yashasvi Jaiswal rises to second and closes in on first-ranked Joe Root.

India's stand-in captain in Perth Test, Jasprit Bumrah soared to the no.1 spot in ICC Test rankings after match-winning performance in Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 opener. In the batters' rankings, Virat Kohli jumped nine places to 13th after his 81st international century.

Bumrah went past South Africa's Kagiso Rabada and Australia's Josh Hazlewood. The Indian pace-bowling spearhead has 883 rating points. Pat Cummins, Ravindra Jadeja and Nathan Lyon slipped to sixth, seventh and eighth respectively. Absent from Perth Test, Ravichandran Ashwin went up one place to fourth whereas Sri Lanka's left-arm spinner Prabath Jayasuriya jumped two places to fifth.

Jaiswal rises, Aussie batters slip

In the batters' rankings, young Indian opener Yashasvi Jaiswal went up two places to claim the second spot after a 161-run knock at Perth Stadium. New Zealand's Kane Williamson and England's Harry Brook went down one place each to third and fourth ahead of the first Test of the series between the two sides.

Steve Smith took a hit as he slipped to seventh position after disappointing outings in first Test against India. As a result, Daryl Mitchell went up to fifth place. Australia opener Usman Khawaja suffered as well as he fell out of top 10 to settle at 12th place. Australia's only half-centurion in the Test, Travis Head went up three places to 10th. Pakistan's Saud Shakeel and Sri Lanka's Kamindu Mendis occupy the eighth and ninth spot respectively.

There were a few more changes outside the top 10. While Kohli went up to 13th, Marnus Labuschagne slipped to 15th after single-digit scores in Perth. Absent from the Perth Test due to thumb injury, Shubman Gill slipped one place to 17th. The first spot is occupied by England's Joe Root with 903 rating points. England's leading run-scorer in Tests has a 78-point lead over second-placed Jaiswal.

Shuffle in all-rounder rankings

There were a few changes in the all-rounder rankings as well. Despite the defeat to West Indies, Bangladesh captain Mehidy Hasan Miraz went up three spots to fourth. He is tied with teammate Shakib Al Hasan. Jason Holder, Root slipped one place each. They are followed by Axar Patel, Chris Woakes as Cummins slipped two places to ninth. Meanwhile, Lyon lost four spots and is now ranked 21st.
