Rohit Sharma-led India managed to reduce Australia to 311 for 6 at stumps on Day 1 of the Boxing Day Test taking place at Melbourne Cricket Ground in Melbourne. Australia's debutant Sam Konstas (60) sparked the home team's charge with a scintillating half-century, marking a dream debut with some stunning strokes.
After opting to bat, Australia were off to a good start as Usman Khawaja and Sam Konstas stitched a partnership of 89 runs for the second wicket as Ravindra Jadeja picked up the debutant in the 20th over. Usman Khawaja (57), Marnus Labuschagne (72), and Steve Smith (68 not out) all contributed with fifties on a good batting surface.
India's Jasprit Bumrah was the pick of the bowlers picking 3/75 and with that he completed his 24 wickets in the ongoing five Test match series against Australia.

The hosts were seen dominating Indian bowlers till lunch but India made a comeback by picking three wickets inside 20 overs where Bumrah picked up Travis Head who smashed two consecutive centuries in his last two outings of the ongoing Test series. Washington Sundar picked up Marnus Labuschagne's wicket who was looking set on the field scoring 72 off 145.
The first two sessions were in favour of Australia but after Travis Head's wicket the hosts were seen struggling to manage a partnership against Indian bowlers.
