On Day 2 of the Perth Test, Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul became the first opening duo from India since 2004 to score a century stand in Test cricket on Australian territory. Rahul-Jaiswal's outstanding century partnership in India's second innings is the first such accomplishment since Virender Sehwag and Akash Chopra's 123-run partnership in Sydney during the 2004 series.
In Test cricket in Australia, their achievement is just the sixth time an Indian opener has posted a partnership of 100 or more. After an outstanding bowling display led by Jasprit Bumrah, India finished the day with a lead of more than 140 runs, further solidifying their commanding position in the game.
KL Rahul equals Virender Sehwag's big record
This match was extremely crucial for KL Rahul who had been on the receiving end of a lot of criticism and backlash over his form. However, his performance in Perth indicated why India trusted his experience and skills. He has now been involved in three 100-plus opening partnerships in SENA countries, which is the most by an Indian opener since 2000. The only other batter to do so is Virender Sehwag.

Both Jaiswal and Rahul completed their fifty and kept on frustrating the Australian bowlers, who just could not find the breakthrough. Their patient and steady approach turned the tables on the Aussies, who were looking forward to the same rampage with the ball as in the opening innings. At the time of writing, 48 overs are done and India is batting on 131 runs without losing a single wicket. Their lead has also extended to 177 runs.
