Indian captain Rohit Sharma was hit on the knee while batting in the nets on December 22 at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG). Throwdown speciallist Daya's delivery hit him on the left leg. Just after taking the hit, Rohit left the nets, took off his gear and received medical attention.
The physio was seen icing the affected area. The good news is that it does not look like a major injury. Rohit was not in visible discomfort as he sat on the sidelines. He was surrounded by teammates who were getting ready or waiting for their turn to bat in nets.
Rohit struggles for form
Meanwhile, Rohit has not been in the best of forms in Australian conditions. He has registered scores of 3, 6 and 10 in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 so far. In the pink-ball warm-up game against Prime Minister's XI, he got out for a single-digit score too. In the current season which started with Bangladesh series at home, Rohit has scored just one half-century which came in Bengaluru against New Zealand.
Rohit's last appearance at MCG
After the Gabba Test ended in a draw, the series stands level at 1-1. The fourth Test is scheduled to begin on December 26 at the MCG. The last time Rohit played a Test at the MCG, he registered scores of 63 not out and 5. In 2018, India won the MCG Test by 137 runs.
Rohit admits going through slump but backs his preparation
In the post-match press conference in Brisbane, Rohit admitted that he hasn't been in good form. Despite the rut, he is felling about his preparations and aims to score in the upcoming matches.
“I have not batted well. No harm in accepting that. I know I am preparing well, and all those boxes are ticked. As long as my mind and feet are moving, I am happy," he told the reporters.
“Numbers can tell that it's been a while since runs came, but as a person, I know my preparation and how I am feeling about myself. I am feeling good. Runs might not show, but inside, I know how I am feeling.”
