21-year-old Sameer Rizvi unleashed absolute carnage against Tripura bowlers in the Men's Under-23 State A Trophy clash with an unbeaten 201 at Kotambi Stadium B Ground, Vadodra on December 21. Rizvi smashed 20 sixes and 13 fours in his unbeaten 201 off just 97 balls. This is the fastest double century in the format. However, the Under-23 State A Trophy matches will not come under List A matches.
In List A cricket, the record for fastest double century belongs to New Zealand's Chad Bowes. The Canterbury opener reached his double century from just 103 balls against Otago In the Ford Trophy. He broke the record held by India's N Jagadeesan and Australia's star cricketer Travis Head. They achieved the feat from 114 balls. While Jagadeesan did it in Vijay Hazare Trophy 2024-25, Head went berserk in the Marsh Cup.
Earlier, Shoaib Siddiqui and Shaurya Singh got Uttar Pradesh off to a good start. They shared a 66-run stand which was broken by Swarab Sahani in the 11th over. Siddiqui approached cautiously whereas Shaurya hit nine fours and a six. Siddiquie scored 38 runs from 58 balls before he was dismissed by Diptanu Chakraborty.
In the 23rd over, Rizvi walked in to bat. He did the bulk of the scoring in the partership with Adarsh Singh. The top-order batter scored 52 runs from 64 balls. He was dismissed by Dipen Biswas. Siddharth Yadav played second fiddle to Rizvi who tormented Tripura bowlers. Siddharth scored 27 runs from 35 balls. Towards the end, Prashant Veer contributed with a nine-ball 17. Rizvi's monstrous 201 despite walking in to bat in the 23rd over helped Uttar Pradesh post 405/4.
