Unsold in IPL 2025 mega auction, former SRH batter breaks Yusuf Pathan's record for fastest century in Vijay Hazare Trophy history

Punjab batter Anmolpreet Singh went ballistic at Narendra Modi Cricket Stadium A Ground, Ahmedabad as he smashed the fastest century in Vijay Hazare Trophy history. Anmolpreet reached his century from just 35 balls against Arunachal Pradesh breaking former Baroda all-rounder Yusuf Pathan's 12-year-old. Pathan scored century from 40 balls against Maharashtra in the 2009-10 season.

Anmolpreet's 35-ball 100 is the third-fastest century in List A cricket. The top spot belongs to Australia's Jake Fraser-McGurk who scored a 29-ball century for South Australia against Tasmania in 2023-24 season. In ODIs, the record belongs to South Africa's AB de Villiers. The Proteas batter reached three figures in just 31 balls against West Indies in 2015.

In the run chase of 165, Punjab captain Abhishek Sharma fell early for a seven-ball 10 to Yab Niya Niia. Abhishek got knocked over in the second over of the innings. Prabhsimran Singh played second fiddle to Anmolpreet as he smashed 12 fours and nine sixes. He reached his century from just 35 balls to score the fastest List A century by an Indian batter. 

Anmolpreet remained unbeaten for 115 off 45 balls as Punjab chased down the target with nine wickets in hand and 37.1 overs to spare. On the other hand, Prabhsimran scored 35 runs from 25 balls including four fours and a six.

No big score for Arunachal Pradesh

Earlier, Punjab won the toss and opted to bowl first. The top order batters disappointed. Techi Neri scored 42 runs from 73 balls. He was their top run-scorer. Hardik Varma contributed with a 52-ball 38. On the other end, Devansh Gupta scored 22 runs from 21 balls. Arunachal Pradesh were bowled out for 164 in 48.4 overs. Ashwani Kumar and Mayank Markande bagged three wickets each. Pacer Baltej Singh claimed two wickets as well whereas Sanvir Singh and Raghu Sharma got one wicket apiece.

Anmolpreet unsold

Anmolpreet made his IPL debut in 2021 edition for Mumbai Indians. In two seasons, he played just three games. For SRH, he made his debut in 2023 and played six games before getting released before mega auction. He remained unsold in the IPL 2025 mega auction. There is still a chance that he gets to play in the IPL if any team needs a replacement for their injured player.
