Iyer determined to make his mark in Australia

Shreyas Iyer, having already scored a century in the Ranji Trophy, is determined to capitalize on his form and leave a lasting impression on Australian soil during the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy. The highly anticipated five-match Test series between India and Australia, beginning on November 22 in Perth, promises to be an intense battle.

Iyer, who has come a long way from his childhood days in Worli to representing India, acknowledges the dream of playing in Australia. The Border-Gavaskar Trophy, known for its fierce rivalry, presents the ultimate challenge for Iyer. With fierce competition for places in the Indian team, Iyer is focused on honing his skills to excel across all formats.

India's star batter also highlighted the importance of making a lasting impression each time a player takes the field, as selectors are constantly observing their performances. He vowed to make a an impact and showcase his abilities at the highest level of Indian cricket.

“As a young boy from Worli to now as a national player, I am living the dream of representing India in every single format that I had as a child. Playing in Australia, especially in a Border-Gavaskar series, is one of the biggest challenges in cricket," Iyer was quoted as saying by Hindustan Times.

 

"The conditions, the rivalry, and the intensity demand everything from you, and these are the moments you want to be part of as a cricketer. I’m preparing myself to grab that opportunity and leave a mark,” he added.

The 29-year-old expressed his enjoyment of high-pressure situations. He noted that the challenges motivate him to improve across all three formats of the game. Iyer has been working diligently to refine his skills and prepare himself for any format at the highest level.

“The competition for places in Indian cricket at the moment is greater than ever before because of the sheer amount of talent that exists in India. There are now a lot more avenues as well for the players to make an impression, make their mark, and catch the eyes of the selectors.

 

"You have to make an impact every single time you’re on the pitch; that is what I aspire to do. When I get the chance, I will be ready to make an impact because performing at the highest level for India is what it’s all about,” he concluded.
