India veteran spinner Ravichandran Ashwin announced his retirement from international cricket after the third Test match of Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 taking place at Brisbane's Gabba Stadium ended in a stalemate. The star off-spinner featured in 106 Tests for India including his last appearance in the pink-ball Test of the ongoing five-Test match series against Australia. He picked up  537 wickets and also scored 3503 runs. He remains the only Test cricketer to have claimed over 500 wickets and six centuries in the longest format of the game.

Soon after the third Test match against Australia, Ashwin came alongside Indian skipper Rohit Sharma to bid adieu to international cricket.

“This will be my last day as an Indian cricketer in all formats at the international level,” Ashwin told reporters on Wednesday.

“I do feel there's a bit of punch left in me as a cricketer, but I would like to expose and probably showcase that in club level cricket, but this will be the last day and I've had a lot of fun,” he added.

The cricketing fraternity started reacting soon after India's star cricketer said goodbye to international cricket.

Ashwin is India's second-highest wicket-taker across all formats, next to Kumble (953). He also won the 2011 50-Over World Cup and 2013 Champions Trophy with India. He will now travel back to India on December 19.
