'We've had a look at him now': Alex Carey confident of Australian batters' ability to counter Jasprit Bumrah threat in Adelaide Test

Alex Carey feels that Australian batters can counter-attack Jasprit Bumrah when he comes to bowl with the old ball in the Adelaide Test.

Australia's wicketkeeper-batter Alex Carey is confident the "world-class" batters of the home side have come up with solutions to counter India's pace-bowling spearhead Jasprit Bumrah. Carey feels that if they can survive his spells with the new ball, they will be able to attacking with when the ball goes old. He pointed how Travis Head scored runs in the second innings of the Perth Test.

"He's obviously a fantastic bowler; (he) has been for a number of years. Our batters are world class as well and always find ways to come up with solutions," Carey told the reporters after the practice session in Adelaide.

"We've had a look at him now. Hopefully we can combat that first, second spell. Get him bowling a little bit deeper in the innings with an older ball."

"We saw Travis (Head) sort of counterpunch a bit (in the second innings). I trust our batters, we'll find a way not only (against) Bumrah. They played a couple of other debutantes who bowled well as well,” Carey said.

Carey says Australian team is a 'very united group'

After the 295-run loss, there were speculations of rift in the Australian dressing room, especially after Josh Hazlewood's comments after Day 3's play.

"If you ask the batters, we all want to perform better and (as) cricketers, you go out there to score a hundred and if you don't do that, I think you're at times disappointed," the 33-year-old said.

"But we're a very united group. We all do get the opportunity to bat and we're all keen to continue to put those big runs on the board and I trust the guys to do that,” he added.

The second Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 will be played at Adelaide Oval. Carey expects India to put the 36 all out fiasco behind and play in a different manner in the pink-ball Test.

Carey who has been in sublime for in domestic cricket lost his wicket to Bumrah early on Day 2 in the first innings. In the run chase, he scored 36 runs from 58 balls. He was knocked over by Harshit Rana. Meanwhile, Bumrah took eight wickets including a fifer in the first innings.
