Former England cricketer Kevin Pietersen has taken a veil dig on modern-day bowlers and has claimed that batting has become way easier these days than it was in the previous era. This statement comes after the Three Lions posted a humongous total of 669 runs against India on the fourth day of the Manchester Test. They did so thanks to exceptional centuries from both Joe Root (150) and Ben Stokes (141), both of whom smashed Indian bowlers all around Old Trafford.
Root broke a plethora of records with his century against India
Root also became the second-highest run-getter in Test cricket, surpassing the likes of Jacques Kallis, Rahul Dravid and Ricky Ponting on the list. The England star batter currently has 13,409 runs in red-ball cricket and is only behind the legendary Sachin Tendulkar, who scored 15,921 runs in his illustrious Test career.
Pietersen not only raised questions over the performance of modern-day bowlers, but also named 22 legendary bowlers and claimed that none of the bowlers today could compare with them.
"Don’t shout at me but batting these days is way easier than 20/25 years ago! Probably twice as hard back then!
Waqar, Shoaib, Akram, Mushtaq, Kumble, Srinath, Harbhajan, Donald, Pollock, Klusener, Gough, McGrath, Lee, Warne, Gillespie, Bond, Vettori, Cairns, Vaas, Murali, Curtley, Courtney and the list could go on and on…
I’ve named 22 above. Please name me 10 modern day bowlers that can compare to the names above?" Pietersen posted on X.
Meanwhile, India had a horrendous start to their second innings in the Manchester Test. Both Yashasvi Jaiswal and Sai Sudharsan departed back to the pavilion for ducks, leaving India on 0/2 at one stage. It even looked like that an innings defeat could well be on the cards for the Men in Blue, however the duo of KL Rahul and Shubman Gill steadied their sinking ship and formed a valiant partnership. Both the Indian batters have scored multiple hundreds in the series so far and will be looking to continue their fine form by playing another highly important knock for the side.
