The official schedule of the Asia Cup 2025 was announced on Saturday with the coveted tournament is set to commence from September 9. It will go on till September 28 and all the 18 matches are set to be held in UAE. However, the official hosting rights of the tournament will remain with India and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). A total of eight Asian nations will be participating in the T20I tournament with four team each present in two groups.
The Indian team is present in Group A alongside the likes of Pakistan, UAE and Oman. The Men in Blue will be beginning their campaign on September 10 with a clash against UAE. They will then be facing arch-rivals Pakistan on September 14 and will finally be locking horns against Oman on September 19.
Notably, the much-anticipated clash between India and Pakistan can potentially take place three times in the tournament. Following their match in the group stage, the two sides can also face-off in the Super 4 round and the final as well. This can turn out to be treat for the fans of both sides as the two teams only clash in international tournaments.
Meanwhile, Group B consists of Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, Bangladesh and Hong Kong. Each team will be facing other once in the group stage and then the action will move to the Super 4 stage. The venue for the tournament was decided in an Asian Cricket Council (ACC) meeting that was held on July 24 in Dhaka and was attended by all the 25 member nations.
Earlier on Saturday, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi had made a big announcement on social medai and had revealed that all the matches of Asia Cup 2025 will take place in UAE.
"I am delighted to confirm the dates of the ACC Men's Asia Cup 2025 in UAE. The prestigious tournament will take place from September 9th to 28th. We look to a spectacular display of cricket. Details schedule will be out soon," Naqvi posted on X.
India had defeated Pakistan in their last T20I meeting
Meanwhile, India's last meeting in the shortyest format took place in the 2024 T20 World Cup where the Men in Blue prevailed by 6 runs in a nail-biting clash. The side led by Rohit Sharma would eventually go on to win the tournament and would end their 11-year wait for an ICC trophy. On the other hanbd, Pakistan got knocked out in the group stages after successive defeats to India and USA.
