England registered a a thrilling 22-run win over India in the third Test of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy 2025 at the Lord's. Following Ben Stokes-led side's win, former England cricketer David Lloyd slammed India all-rounder Washington Sundar for his statement after Day 4, where he was affirmative about India's win.
Sundar played a crucial role in the second innings when he took a four-wicket haul and even assured that India will win and that he has faith in the team.
But, after India lost, Sundar's comments didn't sit well with Lloyd as he felt that a player should let his performance do the talking instead of making premature statements.
“The young man (Sundar) was brilliant with the ball then confidently declared that India would easily win the game easily, There was no doubt that England heard those comments because they let him know when he walked out to bat. Anyways, he lasted four balls. A classic case of keep quiet and let your talent do the talking on the pitch. I’m sure he’ll learn," Lloyd wrote in a column for the Daily Mail.
The 25-year-old bowled out Stokes, Jamie Smith, Joe Root, and Shoaib Bashir and put England in a treacherous position during the second innings. He proved his mettle with the ball and justified his selection over left-arm chinaman bowler Kuldeep Yadav.
Lloyd reserves high praise for Jadeja, tailenders
Meanwhile, Lloyd hailed Jadeja for his resilience and consistency. The all-rounder scored an unbeaten half century that helped India get close to the target. He appreciated the way Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj defended against the England bowlers, giving India a chance to make a comeback after a collapse in the first session.
"Search for a hero. Ravindra Jadeja drew on all of his experience. What a player and what a shift from Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj with the bat too. A truly herculean effort from Ben Stokes and it was lovely that Shoaib Bashir took the final wicket. A Test Match for the ages and I was thrilled that they were all embracing each other at the end," he concluded.
England and India will now lock horns in the the fourth Test will begin from July 23 at The Old Trafford, Manchester.
