Former England captain Kevin Pietersen believes that a little bit of aggression is a 'perfect recipe' to dish up the Test cricket after India captain Shubman Gill was involved in a heated exchange with English opener Zak Crawley on Day 3 of the third Test match at Lord's Stadium in England.
Pietersen took his 'X', formerly known as Twitter to indirectly back Indian players after they had an animated chat with England batters.
"Test cricket needs needle. Finger pointing and a little bit of aggression is the perfect recipe to dish up an action packed today and tomorrow. When tempers flare and actions boil over, it’s entertaining and I LOVE IT!" wrote Pietersen.
The incident happened when England opener Zak Crawley tried to delay the proceedings in the final minutes of Day 3 at Lord's on July 12. India captain Shubman wanted is pacers to bowl 2 overs in the low evening light, noted Crawley's delay tactics. Angry and unsatisfied, Shubman walked up to the England opener and had a verbal spat.
However, day 3 ended with just one over bowled by speedster Jasprit Bumrah. England were leading by two runs. Day 4 at Lord's also started with drama as Mohammed Siraj picked up two quick wickets and gave a fiery send-off to Ben Duckett.
Coming back to the third Test, the momentum of the ongoing Test is currently in favour of India as Mohammed Siraj's two-fers, followed by one wicket by Nitish Kumar Reddy and Akash Deep. While writing this copy, England are 87/4.
The five Test match series between India and England is currently 1-1 tied after Shubman Gill-led side's dominating 336-run win against Ben Stokes-led side at Edgbaston Stadium in Birmingham.
