India veteran pacer opened up on the ongoing debate over the Dukes ball being used in the ongoing Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy 2025. Bhuvneshwar who is known for his ability to swing the ball both ways, admitted that the ball hasn't offered as much movement as expected this time around and reckons that it’s difficult to pinpoint a single reason behind the issue.
The Dukes Leather ball, which is getting used in the India vs England five-Test match series, came under scrutiny during the third Test at Lord’s, with several current and former players expressing concerns about its quality. A lot of ball changes and a noticeable lack of swing made it a major talking point in the match. While many have been quick to criticise the manufacturer, Bhuvneshwar offered a more measured view of the situation.
“It will be difficult to say what exactly happened. It could be the ball, the wickets, or even the weather. Generally, we don't talk much about the weather, but it is changing due to a number of reasons,” he said in an interview with Sports Today.
Bhuvneshwar also admitted to the evolution of the game in the past years, especially with batters becoming increasingly aggressive and unafraid to play the hard-hitting shots.
“I don't know exactly what the reason is, but of course, yes, cricket has changed quite a bit. Be it playing aggressively or making of the pitches, it has been difficult for the bowlers. Be it the strategy or the performance, bowlers deserve credit, and I feel India are doing great,” he said.
Coming back to the fourth Test match, England star Joe Root surpassed Australian legend Ricky Ponting's tally to become the second-highest run-getter in the history of Test cricket and next in sight of the England batter is Indian icon Sachin Tendulkar, who continues to head the list.
