India pacer Anshul Kamboj wasn't quite satisfied with his bowling display on the second day of Manchester Test. Though the debutant did manage to pick up the huge wicket of Ben Duckett for 94, he also ended up being on the expensive side and leaked 48 runs in his 10-over spell. The 24-year-old had earlier replaced Akash Deep from the playing XI for the fourth Test after the latter had sustained a groin injury.
Kamboj remarked that even though he felt great after picking up his maiden international scalp, he wasn't fully satisfied with the deliveries that he bowled during the match and added that he will look to improve on Day 3.
"I felt good after picking up my maiden wicket in international cricket. I was focused on hitting the right areas — that was my plan from the start. Some deliveries landed well, some didn't. Honestly, I'm still not fully satisfied with my bowling. I'll look to improve and do better tomorrow," Kamboj said on JioHotstar.
"I tried to put in more effort during my first two spells. In the third spell, I focused on backing my strengths and sticking to my areas. Tomorrow, we'll look to bowl in good areas again and try to dismiss them as quickly as possible. The key will be to restrict boundaries because they seem more focused on hitting fours rather than taking singles," he added.
Kamboj has a brilliant record at first-class level
Kamboj also talked about the experience that he gained while bowling alongside the likes of Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj. Notably, this is the young pacer's first match for the Men in Blue in international cricket. He was brought into the squad after he had thoroughly impressed everyone in first-class cricket while playing for Haryana. He has 79 scalps under his name in 24 matches in the format with 10/49 being his best figures. He also featured for the Chennai Super Kings in IPL 2025, picking up 8 wickets in as many matches and once again proving to be impressive.
"I get to learn a lot from Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj — observing what they do in different situations and understanding what needs to be done. We constantly talk to each other, and it's all about adapting according to the conditions and the match scenario," Kamboj concluded.
Meanwhile, the action will resume on the third day at Old Trafford with England on 225/2. They currently trail India by 133 runs, but with eight wickets in hand, it is likely that they will surpass the visitors' first-inning total of 358.
