Former England captain Michael Vaughan suggested Shubman Gill-led India need to arrive with a Virat Kohli-like mentality on Day 3 of the fourth Test match of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy 2025 at Old Trafford Stadium in Manchester. With England leading 2-1 after the three Tests, Vaughan reckons that the visitors should come out with intent and aggression to keep their hopes alive.
After scoring 358 runs in the first innings, Indian bowlers failed to make an impact on Day 2 of the fourth Test match as England ended the day scoring 225/2 trailing by 133 runs. Vaughan, who has already predicted that the hosts will win the Test series 4-0 believes that if India need to make a comeback, then they will have to make the comeback on Day 3 of the 4th Test. England's batters took full advantage of an inconsistent Indian bowling performance, punishing the bowlers all around the ground as they struggled with their line and length.
"The series will be decided on Day 3. If England have a great day on Day 3, that's the series done and dusted," Vaughan said. "India and Shubman have to arrive with that Virat mentality, ‘We have to win Day 3’. They have to win tomorrow. If they win tomorrow, this game is alive, and India can win this Test match. If they lose Day 3, this series is gone for them" Vaughan told Cricbuzz
Root (63 batting off 115 balls) and Pope (71 off 123) forged an unbeaten 135-run stand that threatened to take the game away from India, who led only by 26 runs after posting 358 in their first innings.
Besides an odd ball keeping low from the James Anderson end and another jumping from the opposite side, Jasprit Bumrah and Co did not trouble Root and Pope.
