India's left-handed batter Yashasvi Jaiswal revealed his aim while batting during the first innings of the first Test match against England at the Yorkshire Cricket Ground in Leeds, England. The day 1 of the first Test match between India and England was dominated by the batters. 

Indian openers KL Rahul and Yashasvi Jaiswal stitched a 91-run partnership before the veteran star lost his wicket. Despite KL Rahul's wicket, Jaiswal continued his form to smash his maiden Test ton on English soil. Jaiswal scored 101 of 159 before Ben Stokes picked his wicket.

After the end of Day 1's play, the southpaw revealed that the team's preparation was good against England and he had a long chat with head coach Gautam Gambhir about the batting technique. Jaiswal also said that while batting against England, he aimed to play a long innings.

"Our prep was good. Had a long chat with Gautam Gambhir. We had spoken a lot about technique and done a lot of planning, the aim was to play a longish innings" said Jaiswal after Day 1 game.

"Gill and I were talking about taking it session by session and we spoke about choosing balls. Gill was calm and composed, it was great playing with him and under his leadership. We wanted to put the bad balls away. There is a lot of support from the dressing room and Gautam Sir. Everyone lets us be and lets us express ourselves. The dressing room gives us a lot of backing" added Jaiswal. 
 

Jaiswal's century helped him to join the elite list featuring Sunil Gavaskar. Motganhalli Jaisimha, Sunil Gavaskar, and Jaiswal are the three Indians who have scored a century in their first Test in Australia, and six batters, Vijay Manjrekar, Abbas Ali Baig, Sandeep Patil, Sourav Ganguly, Murali Vijay, and Jaiswal have achieved this milestone in their maiden Test on English soil, Jaiswal stands alone as the only Indian to have accomplished this distinction in both countries. He had previously scored 161 runs in the second innings of his debut Test in Australia, which took place in November 2024 at the Optus Stadium in Perth.

Coming back to the match, The first Test match between India and England is taking place in Headingley. On the first day at Headingley, Yashasvi Jaiswal scored 101 runs, after that skipper Shubman Gill returned unbeaten after scoring 127 runs in 175 balls with 16 fours and a six. Rishabh Pant also played an unbeaten innings of 65 runs that helped India to put 359 runs on board while losing three wickets.
