Shubman Gill talked about Jasprit Bumrah's participation in second Test

Second Test between India and England to begin from July 2

With the second Test against England right around the corner, India captain Shubman Gill broke silence on whether star pacer Jasprit Bumrah will feature in the match or not. The 25-year-old confirmed that Bumrah is available for the second Test, however the final call on his inclusion in the playing XI will be taken later on by the team management.

Earlier, India head coach Gautam Gambhir had confirmed that the 31-year-old seamer will only be featuring in three out of the five Tests in the ongoing series against England as he needs to take care of his body. It is yet to be decided that which three Tests will the pacer play.

Bumrah is available but it isn't certain if he will play the second Test

“Jasprit Bumrah is definitely available. We just need to see how we manage his workload in the upcoming Test matches. We are trying to find the right combination where we can take 20 wickets and score runs as well on this kind of wicket. We will take a final look at the wicket today and then think about our final combination we want to go with tomorrow," Gill told reporters during the pre-match press-conference.

Gill also confirmed that Bumrah will only be playing three Tests in the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy and remarked that though the team will miss him, their plans regarding him won't be changed.

“We knew prior to the series that we would get Jasprit for three games, but we had that sorted beforehand. Yes, obviously we would miss him, but we have our plans sorted," Gill stated.

Notably, Bumrah bowled a total of 43.4 overs during the Headingley Test against England, picking up five wickets. The only Indian bowler who bowled more overs than him was Ravindra Jadeja. The spinner bowled a total of 47 overs during the match, but wasn't quite effective and picked up just a single wicket.

Despite once again being the top-wicket taker for the Men in Blue, Bumrah's workload was seemingley managed well by Gill as the pacer wasn't asked to bowl again after England were 85 runs short of the 371-run target on Day 5.
