All the suspense finally ended about Jasprit Bumrah's participation in the second Test against England with Shubman Gill revealing India's playing XI during the toss at the Edgbaston cricket ground in Birmingham on July 2. England won the toss and invited India to bat first in the second Test.
Will Jasprit Bumrah play the third Test against England?
Fans were speculating that Bumrah might end up playing the second Test against England, especially after India losing the series opener by five wickets. However, the Indian team management decided to prioritise Bumrah's workload. Shubman Gill made big changes in India's playing XI, making three strategic changes. Washington Sundar, Akash Deep and Nitish Kumar Reddy walked into India's playing XI.
Not just this, during the toss and Gill also revealed whether Bumrah will play the Lord's Test against England or not which will start from July 10. India's Test captain made it clear that the pace maestro will certainly feature in India's playing XI in the third Test.
"Would've bowled first as well. If there's anything in the wicket, it's in the first day. Three changes - Reddy, Washi and Akash Deep come in. No Bumrah. Just to manage his workload. We did get a good break and this is an important match for us. But the third Test being at Lord's, we think there'll be more in that pitch so we'll use him there. We were tempted to play Kuldeep but looking at the last match, our lower order didn't do well, so decided to add some depth to the batting," Gill said after the toss.
Meanwhile, after winning the flip of the coin, England skipper Ben Stoke said:
"We're going to bowl. Overhead conditions favour it. Did consider everything (bringing Archer into the squad?). Very good team performance last week, we're confident. You understand the conditions better as you go deeper into the Test. Brains and me and Baz are not three things you put together. Great run chase, great Test to be part of great start to the series. Last week is last week, need to concentrate on this week."
