BCCI in full action mode, calls review meeting with Gambhir, Agarkar and Laxman; know why

Originally promised by BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia following a dismal summer abroad, the long-delayed inquest will finally address Team India’s recent overseas stumbles while attempting to chart a clear path forward for the national side.

The meeting comes on the heels of a deeply disappointing European swing. India’s proud 16-series undefeated streak in T20Is came to a screeching halt in June with a 2-0 defeat in Ireland. Things unravelled further in England, where the reigning T20 World Champions were soundly beaten 4-0 in the T20I series—highlighted by a crushing 125-run loss at Nottingham—before dropping the ODI series 2-1 despite an encouraging opening win in Birmingham.

With an upcoming tour of New Zealand and long-term preparations for the 2027 World Cup looming, board officials are determined to get all key leaders on the same page. Top on the agenda is player fitness and injury management, a growing point of contention following repeated breakdowns ahead of major assignments. The review will specifically target reported communication lapses between the players, the selection panel, and the CoE, amidst mounting skepticism surrounding the center's rehabilitation protocols.

Communication breakdowns within the setup have reached a boiling point, highlighted by a glaring lapse where the selection panel was left in the dark regarding Jasprit Bumrah’s unfitness for an entire tour. Coupled with Washington Sundar’s sudden setback and Sai Sudharsan’s surprisingly drawn-out recovery, internal frustration has spilled over. With Indian team management previously voicing concerns over key stars missing time due to grueling IPL schedules, Thursday's meeting will directly tackle the impact of franchise workload on national team readiness.
