India bowler Anshul Kamboj receives encouragement from Jasprit Bumrah bduring day two of the Fourth Test Match between England and India at Emirates Old Trafford

Story Highlights:

Ravi Shastri slammed Indian bowlers for their performance against England at Old Trafford

England notched up 225 runs for the loss of just 2 wickets on Day 2

After India got bundled out for 358 during the second session of Day 2 at Old Trafford, the onus was on the bowlers to deliver and restrict England to a lower score. However, it was the opposite which ended up happening as openers Zak Crawley and Ben Duckett absolutely dominated against the likes of Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj and Anshul Kamboj.

Crawley and Duckett were rampant against India on Day 2

The hosts showed no mercy to the opposing bowlers and were even scoring at a rate of 5.50 runs per over at one stage. Siraj in particular proved to be quite expensive, giving away 58 runs in just 10 overs. On the other hand, Kamboj did manage to pick up the massive wicket of Duckett for 94 on debut, but also ended up leaking 48 runs in 10 overs. Though Bumrah did remain economical, he also finished the day with no wickets and conceded 37 runs in 13 overs.

Former India head coach Ravi Shastri was apalled seeing the bowlers' performance and remarked that some of the deliveries that they bowled during the session were 'rubbish'. He added that if he were the coach, then the bowlers were definitely in for some harsh words in the dugout.

"Just not consistent enough. They will look back at this session and see, especially some of the boundary deliveries, that it's pretty ordinary stuff, at times rubbish,” Shastri said on air.

"Maybe get the local lingo in there, which can sound harsher. Some harsh words will be exchanged by the coach and the bowling coach. That's how he puts it across. It's different. If he can't, then you step in and say exactly the same," he added.

Meanwhile, the 166-run opening partnership between Crawley and Duckett saw England take control of the match. It also set them on route to surpass the total set by India in their first innings. The hosts wrapped up the day on 225/2 with Ollie Pope unbeaten on 20 and Joe Root batting on 11. They are currently trailing the visitors by 133 runs, but look set to take to the lead as the action resumes on Day 3.
