Story Highlights:

England have been docked 2 points for maintaining slow over rate in Lord's Test.

Michael Vaughan feels India should have been docked points as well.

Shoaib Bashir's injury in 2nd innings played a part in slow over rate on Day 5.

England suffered a major setback in the ongoing Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy 2025. A couple of days after the 22-run win at the Lord's, Ben Stokes-led side has been docked two World Test Championship (WTC) points for maintaining slow over rate. This took England's points tally from 24 to 22. They slipped from second position to third, below Sri Lanka. England's win percentage went down from 66.67 to 61.11. The ICC sanctioning England did not sit well with their former captain Michael Vaughan who feels that Shubman Gill's India should have lost points as well.

"Let’s be honest both teams over rates at Lords were very very poor .. How only 1 team has been reprimanded is beyond me," Vaughan wrote on his X account.

On Day 5, the game went into the third session. As India lower order showed ressistance, England bowled 57.1 overs to win the Test by 22 runs and defend a target of 193.

Bashir's injury impacts England's over rate

Off-spinner Shoaib Bashir's finger injury played a huge role in England falling behind in over rate. He bowled a total of 5.5 overs and got the last wicket of Mohammed Siraj to wrap up the innings. Also, Stokes used just one over of Joe Root. Earlier, in India's first innings, Bashir bowled 14.5 overs and got opener KL Rahul's wicket.
