India's 33-year-old batter Karun Nair has been the talk of the town ahead of the first Test of the five-Test series against England. Nair is set to make a much-awaited comeback after a long hiatus. However, on June 18, Nair had a minor injury scare when a short ball from Prasidh Krishna struck him on his abdomen.
While batting in the nets, Nair was too late on the shot as Krishna delivery struck him. Krishna immediately walked up to Nair to see if he is doing fine. The in-form batter was in pain for a few seconds as he took his time. A little while later, he was seen with a smile on his face. He walked up to the physio and his teammates, showing the mark ball left on his body.
The net session on the eve of the Headingley Test will clear the air over whether Nair's injury is serious enough to delay his return to Test cricket.
Nair in good form
After getting picked in the Test squad, Nair did well for India A on England soil. Against England Lions, he scored 204 in Canterbury. In the second unofficial Test played in Northampton, Nair registered scores of 40 and 15.
Nair's Test career
Nair made his Test debut in 2016. He became second Indian batter to score a triple century in Tests. He scored 374 runs from six Tests and was dropped from the squad. His last Test series was against Australia in 2017 at home, where he scored 54 runs from four innings. Now, he is set to play a Test match after more than eight years. He may take the no.3 spot as Rishabh Pant said that he will bat at no.5 and captain Shubman Gill will take Virat Kohli's no.4 spot.
