India's star wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant further rose in latest ICC Men's Test batting rankings. Riding on his stellar twin centuries in the first Test against England, Rishabh Pant achieved a career-best rating in the recently released Test Rankings.
Rishabh Pant shines bright in latest ICC Test batting rankings
Despite India's five-wicket loss, Pant's impressive knocks of 134 and 118 allowed him to climb one position to sixth overall in the Test batters rankings. This new ranking places him just one spot below his career-high of fifth, which he held during the same period in 2022. Pant's current overall rating of 801 points marks a new personal best, bringing him within 88 points of the top-ranked batter, Joe Root.
Meanwhile, Joe Root maintains his slender lead at the summit of the rankings after scoring 28 and a crucial 53 not out during the Headingley Test. His teammate, Harry Brook, remains in second place, trailing by a mere 15 rating points. England's opening batsman, Ben Duckett, also celebrated a career-high rating, reaching eighth place on the batter rankings. This improvement comes on the back of his match-winning innings of 149 in the second innings of the Leeds Test.
The ICC Test Rankings have seen further movements within the top 20 following the completion of two other Test matches around the globe. Australia secured a convincing 159-run victory over the West Indies in the first Test in Barbados. This win propelled left-handed batter Travis Head up three places to tenth overall in the Test batters list after he scored half-centuries in both innings at Kensington Oval. In another series, Sri Lanka achieved a significant victory against Bangladesh in Colombo. This result led to a substantial rise for Pathum Nissanka, who climbed 14 places to 17th overall for Test batters following his innings of 158. His Sri Lankan teammate, Kusal Mendis, also moved up the rankings, gaining four places to reach 30th. Finally, South African youngster Lhuan-dre Pretorius made his debut in the batter rankings at 68th after scoring a century against Zimbabwe.
Talking about bowlers' standings, India's pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah continues to hold the top position in the ICC Bowling Rankings, following his fantastic fifer in the series opener against England, which India ended up losing by five wickets.
Meanwhile, Australian pacer Josh Hazlewood also made an impact, grabbing a five-wicket haul against West Indies during the second innings of the first Test in Barbados. This propelled him to the 4th position in the ICC Test Rankings for bowlers, with a total of 817 points. Adding to the list of impressive bowling performances, Jayden Seales has climbed to the 9th spot on the points table. His stunning display in the first innings at Barbados, where he also took five wickets, contributed to his upward movement in the rankings.
In the all-rounder rankings, there haven't been any major shifts at the top. Ravindra Jadeja maintains his lead, occupying the first position with 376 rating points. However, there has been movement further down the list. Wiaan Mulder, following his brilliant century against Zimbabwe, has jumped seven places to secure the 15th spot in the test ratings for all-rounders, now holding 187 points. Moreover, South African all-rounder Corbin Bosch also rose in the ICC Test rankings for all-rounders after his stellar hundred in the same match as Wiaan Mulder. Bosch surged up 42 positions and now occupies the 19th spot.
