India's veteran all-rounder Shardul Thakur hilariously revealed that former Test captain Rohit Sharma often teases him with the nickname 'Lord'. The star fast-bowling all-rounder made this revelation during the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy 2025 in England. Shardul also expressed gratitude to the fans for giving him the unique moniker, saying it makes him feel appreciated and shows that people enjoy watching him play.
Shardul made a strong impact during the fourth Test against England, contributing valuable runs and taking crucial wickets seemingly out of nowhere, efforts that earned him the affectionate nickname 'Lord' from fans. He also played a pivotal role in India's historic series win in Australia during the 2020–21 Border-Gavaskar Trophy, further cementing his reputation as a clutch performer. After being asked by former teammate Cheteshwar Pujara about his nickname, he said:
"Haan Accha lagta hai. Pehli baat toh logon ne diya hua hai, fans ne diya hai. Fans se jabhi bhi title milta hai toh, woh acchi cheez hai. That means fans love you, they like to see you play. Rohit toh chidhaate rehta hai 'Lord' naam se. Acchi cheez hai, aur ek moment create ho jaata hai, khushi ka moment create ho jaata hai. Kaafi ladke bhi bolte rehte hain dressing room mein toh. Toh us vajah se atmosphere bhi accha ho jaata hai, ki woh aapko ek alag naam se bula rahe hain."
[It feels good. Firstly, the fans have given me this name. So, whenever the fans give me any title, it's a good thing. That means fans love you, they like to see you play. Rohit keeps teasing me 'Lord'. It's a good thing. It does create a light-hearted moment and atmosphere. Even guys in the dressing room call me by that. So, it creates a good environment].
Shardul, who missed the second and third Test matches, made his comeback in the fourth Test match after Nitish Kumar Reddy got an injury after the third Test match against England at Lord's Stadium in London.
