India to feature with Nitish Kumar Reddy in second Test against England.

Team India are currently preparing for the second Test match of the ongoing Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy 2025, which is scheduled to take place from 2-6 July at Edgbaston Stadium in Birmingham. England are currently leading 1-0 as Shubman Gill-led India have lost the first Test by five wickets.

In the upcoming second Test against England, Team India will reportedly make some changes in their playing XI to shift the momentum of the series. India assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate also hinted at some changes in the playing XI for the second Test during his press conference before the clash in Birmingham. Here are the changes.

India to feature with two spinners

Team India will feature two spinners in the second Test match against England. Coach Ryan ten Doeschate confirmed that in the press conference. There are chances that Kuldeep Yadav or Washington Sundar will make a cut into the playing XI for the second Test, or else Ravindra Jadeja could be benched, and both Kuldeep and Washington will feature in the Edgbaston Test.

"There is a very strong chance of playing two spinners. It's just which two we play. And that goes back to the previous question about juggling the batting depth. All three spinners are bowling very nicely," he said.

"Washi's batting very nicely. So it's just which combination do we go with? All-rounder spinner or the out-and-out spinner? And you have to play the bowling all-rounder again. So there's so many different variables.

"The wicket's got 11 mm grass on at the moment. 11 or 12 mm. But it's quite grassy and patchy. It's quite dry underneath. But there's also rain forecast for Wednesday. So again, trying to weigh up the two options of how we want to go attacking-wise. But I'm pretty sure two spinners will play in this Test."

Nitish Kumar Reddy in place of Shardul Thakur

India coach Ryan ten Doeschate also hinted that Nitish Kumar Reddy's participation in the second Test means Shadul Thakur, who featured in the first Test match, is likely to sit out in the upcoming clash.

"He's very close to getting a game. Obviously, he was fantastic in Australia. Coming into the team and playing the way he did.

“We just felt on balance for the last game, we wanted to go with the bowling all-rounder. We thought Shardul was slightly ahead on the bowling front. We're looking at ways of rejigging the puzzle, so we can get a batting all-rounder in.

"Nitish is our premium batting all-rounder at the moment. So I would say it's a very good chance to play this test," the former Netherlands international said.

Jasprit Bumrah to miss the second clash

India's pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah will most likely to miss the second Test match because of workload management. The speedster picked up a five-wicket haul in the first innings of the opener clash. However, he will feature in the third Test. The India assistant coach said that Bumrah is fully fit and there are no injury concerns, but it is just about managing his workload and thinking about the bigger picture.
