India mystery spinner Varun Chakravarthy, who made his international debut in 2021 under Virat Kohli's captaincy, explained how the leadership of the batting great was exceptional. Kohli's captaincy tenure with the Indian cricket team spanned from 2013 to 2022, encompassing all three formats of the game. He took over as captain in 2013, initially in ODIs and T20Is, and later became the full-time Test captain in 2014. His captaincy concluded in 2022, with Rohit Sharma taking over the leadership roles.
Under Kohli's captaincy, the Indian Test team dominated the opponents and registered the first-ever series win against Australia on their home soil. Chakravarthy, who was a part of India's forgettable T20 World Cup 2021 campaign, said that Kohli is a very motivational leader.
"Virat Kohli is a very motivational leader. It was so inspiring to see him give it back to the opposition. Virat is exceptional with the way he cheers up everyone. Whenever I spoke to Virat, his responses were very motivational," said Varun Chakravarthy in Ashwin's youtube channel.
Varun Chakravarthy's last outing with Virat Kohli
Chakravarthy's last international assignment with Virat Kohli came during the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, where he picked up nine wickets in three outings, including a five-wicket haul. Unbeaten India won the tournament, defeating New Zealand in the final.
Kohli recently announced his retirement from the Tests on May 12, 2025, ahead of the Tendulkar-Anderson Trophy. The batting great have already announced his T20I retirement after India's T20 World Cup 2024 win in Barbados.
Kohli's upcoming matches in 2025
Kohli will now most likely to be seen in action in the upcoming ODI series against Bangladesh. Team India are scheduled to play a three-match ODI series followed by the same number of T20Is against Bangladesh, which will start from August 17. India is scheduled to play nine ODIs in 2025, three each against Bangladesh, Australia, and South Africa.
