The England Cricket Board (ECB) have announced England's playing XI for the second Test match against India which will start from June 2 at Edgbaston Stadium in Birmingham. The hosts are currently leading 1-0 in the five-Test match series of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy 2025.
England named an unchanged lineup for the second match. Notably, pacer Jofra Archer, who was added to the England squad after recovering from a finger injury, was not named in the starting lineup. Josh Tongue, Brydon Carse and Chris Woakes will continue as the frontline pacers. The ECB confirmed earlier in the day that Archer’s arrival in the squad was delayed due to a family emergency.
"Men's fast bowler Jofra Archer will not be joining the England Test squad for today's training session at Edgbaston, Monday 30 June, due to a family emergency. He is expected to rejoin the squad tomorrow, Tuesday," the England and Wales Cricket Board's (ECB) said on Monday.
Archer, who has struggled with elbow-related injury to his bowling arm over the last several years, last played in a Test more than four years ago against India in Ahmedabad.
In the other camp, pace bowler Jasprit Bumrah is expected to be rested for the second match and there are chances that Nitish Kumar Reddy will make a cut in the playing XI in place of Shardul Thakur.
England playing XI: Zak Crawley, Ben Duckett, Ollie Pope, Joe Root, Harry Brook, Ben Stokes (c), Jamie Smith (wk), Chris Woakes, Brydon Carse, Josh Tongue, Shoaib Bashir.
