Ravi Shastri slammed Karun Nair for his batting display at Lord's

Nair hasn't been in great form in the England Test series so far

Veteran India batter Karun Nair hasn't been able to play any standout knock so far in the ongoing Test series against England. The 33-year old who returned to India's Test set-up after seven years of absence, hasn't really been able to impress anyone with his batting performances so far and with the likes of Sai Sudharsan and Abhimanyu Easwaran sitting on the sidelines, it remains to be seen if the batter will be selected in the playing XI for the fourth Test or not.

Shastri wasn't happy at all with Nair's dismissal

Following India's 22-run defeat at Lord's, former head coach Ravi Shastri lashed out at Nair for losing his wicket cheaply and even claimed that his dismissal turned things around for England.

“At 40 for one (in the second innings), I thought that was a huge lapse in concentration from Karun Nair to leave a straight ball — a nothing ball — and open the door for England. The timing of that dismissal turned things around," Shastri said on the ICC Review.

"If the top order had just been a little tougher and mentally stronger on Day 4, towards the end, this game would have been India's," he added.

On the other hand, Shastri heaped praise on England captain Ben Stokes, who was adjudged as the Player of the Match in the third Test following a brilliant all-round display. The 34-year-old recorded scores of 44 and 33 in the first and second innings respectively and also took five wickets in the game, playing a key role in the victory for the hosts. Additionally, he also performed a fantastic run-out to get rid of Rishabh Pant for 74 in India's first innings.

“Ben Stokes… simply outstanding presence of mind to hit at the right end and pull it off on the stroke of lunch. Because India would have got a lead and they were in the driver's seat. That was the turning point for me," Shastri stated.

Meanwhile, England will be heading into the upcoming  Test at Old Trafford with a valuable 2-1 lead in the series. It is highly important for the Men in Blue to come out victorious in the match as a win for the Three Lions will see them seal the series even before playing the fifth and final game. The fourth Test in Manchester is set to commence from July 23.
