'The right mix between caution and aggression...': Ravi Shastri lauds KL Rahul and Yashasvi Jaiswal after batters take India to 78 for no loss at lunch

Former India head coach Ravi Shastri lavished praise on KL Rahul and Yashasvi Jaiswal after the openers took the Shubman Gill-led side to 78 at lunch during the fourth Test match against England at Emirates Old Trafford Stadium in Manchester, England. The former Indian cricketer called  India's performance a "right mix between caution and aggression. 

Despite a few edges and misses, India managed to escape the first session of the fourth Test unscathed, with KL Rahul and Yashasvi Jaiswal pushing up the attack during the final few overs.

Speaking on Sky Sports, Shastri said that keeping in mind the "overcast conditions, some pace around, and England having experienced bowlers," India delivered a "proper session" of "world-class" cricket.

 

"The right mix between caution and aggression. They left a lot of balls and trusted their defence. Then, towards the end of the session, they began to up the ante. Rahul just does not look like getting out," he added.

After being asked to bat, India off to a good start as openers KL Rahul and Yashasvi Jaiswal scored 78/0, with KL (40*) and Jaiswal (36*) unbeaten at Lunch. England are leading the five-match series 2-1, having won the first and the third Test. India won the second Test by 336 runs.

While writing this copy, KL Rahul got out after scoring 46 runs, as he was caught by Cwarley during Chris Woakes over. Sai Sudharsan joined Yashasvi Jaiswal for the big total. Earlier, England captain Ben Stokes won the toss and opted to bowl and India featured with three changes, adding Sai Sudharsan in place of Karun Nair. Shardul Thakur and Anshul Kamboj were also added in the playing XI, replacing Nitish Kumar Reddy and Akash Deep, who got injured.
