India managed to score 189/7 in the first inning of the first T20I against England at Chester-Le-Street. However, heavy rain came just before England could start their chase, putting the game at a risk of being abandoned. If play resumes and the game is reduced to the minimum five overs, England's revised target will be decided through the DLS method.

After winning the toss, India skipper Shreyas Iyer decided to bat first and posted 189/7. England were given a target of 190 runs to seal the win. However, the rain played the spoilsport, if play does not resume by 12:23 AM IST, overs will start getting reduced.

If the game is reduced to five overs, England will be given a revised target of 64 runs. The game mus start by 1:30 AM IST for a five-over clash to take place. Otherwise, the game could be called off after 2:00 AM IST.
Coming back to the match, Sanju Samson failed to fire despite getting another chance after the Ireland tour disaster, as he was removed after scoring just one run. Ishan Kishan, who came in at No.3 could not create an impact after being dismissed for a duck, leaving India at 6/2.
Abhishek Sharma and skipper Iyer took charge of the innings with a big partnership. Abhishek Sharma played an excellent knock of 59 off 24 balls, hitting six fours and four sixes, while Iyer amassed 68 runs off 47 balls with six boundaries and one six.
Towards the end of the innings, Shivam Dube managed to provide a big finish with an unbeaten 42 of 21 balls, smashing two fours and three sixes at a strike rate of 200. His late cameo helped India post a strong total of 189/7 in 20 overs.
