India’s T20 World Cup 2026-winning captain Suryakumar Yadav has spoken against statements attributed to him making rounds on social media. Sacked as T20I captain, his fake quotes on T20I snub have been circulating. Suryakumar put out a message on social media, extending his support for the Shreyas Iyer-led side. He also wrote a message for 15-year-old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi who made his T20I debut in the ongoing T20I series against England. The post comes less than a day after the squad announcement for T20I series on Zimbabwe tour.

"A special word for Vaibhav - you're at the start of what promises to be a very exciting journey. Enjoy every moment and keep making the country proud,” Suryakumar said.
"I've also noticed a statement being circulated online that has been falsely attributed to me. I want to make it clear that I have not made or authorised any such statement. Please don't believe or share unverified information,” he added.
Why Suryakumar was dropped from T20I squad?
Suryakumar did not just lose his captaincy but was dropped from the T20I team as Iyer got a direct entry as captain. Suryakumar did not have a consistent run in the T20 World Cup 2026. His most impactful knock came against USA in campaign opener where hosts suffered a batting collapse.
After the high of T20 World Cup 2026 win, Suryakumar had a lacklustre Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 season with Mumbai Indians (MI). The five-time IPL-winners finished ninth on the points table. From 13 innings in the IPL 2026, he scored 270 runs, averaging 20.76. His strike rate came down to 147.54. He managed to score a couple of half-centuries in the season.
Suryakumar's 2025 and 2026 compared
In 2026, he has played 14 T20Is so far, scoring 484 runs. He averaged 44 and had a strike rate of 161.33. He has four T20I fifties in the calendar year.
In 2025, he endured a poor run with the bat in T20Is. From 19 innings, he managed to accumulate 218 runs, averaging 13.62. His strike rate dropped to 123.16, nowhere near modern T20 standards. He didn't score a single T20I fifty in 2025.
