Former Indian cricketer Gautam Gambhir is all set to start his tenure as the new Indian head coach with the upcoming three-match T20I series against Sri Lanka. He has taken over the office as the successor of the legendary Rahul Dravid who put an end to his tenure on a high note with the historic triumph in the recently concluded edition of the T20 World Cup 2024 and made India two-time T20 World Champions. Former Sri Lanka player Russel Arnold believes Team India will be more fierce and competitive in the Gambhir era.
Russel Arnold on Gautam Gambhir's coaching
Sri Lanka legend Russel Arnold believes Gambhir is a winner and whatever franchise he has been involved with has shown good results. He said his approach might be different from Rahul Dravid but that change will only be good for players as it will keep them on their toes.

“I think they'll be fierce. I think they'll be competitive. And Gautam Gambhir, we've seen him in the franchises. He was a very good player and did compete well when he played. But it's sometimes very difficult to translate that into coaching because you can't do it. It's kind of out of your control. You're managing players and trying to get things done. But he's shown that he can do that with any franchise that he's been involved with, the results have been good. They've been playing some tremendous cricket and going on to win trophies. So he's the winner. That will reflect in how these players play. Yes, it will be slightly different to how Rahul Dravid managed it, but in the inner system, it's good. Change is good. And that'll keep players on their toes and also remind them that they have to keep up, skidding and getting better all the time if they want to be a part of it,” said Russel Arnold in an exclusive conversation with Sports Tak arranged by Sony Sports Network.
Gambhir has Abhishek Nayar and Ryan ten Doeschate as his assistant coaches both of them have worked with him in the Kolkata Knight Riders camp and were in the same roles. However, there is still no confirmation on who will be taking up the role of India's bowling coach. Sairaj Bahutule will be taking up the role of Interim bowling coach for the Sri Lanka tour.
