Team India's latest centurion Yashasvi Jaiswal created history on his Test debut in the first Test of the ongoing West Indies tour in Dominica. In a match that ended in three days, Jaiswal scored 171 runs in the first innings of the Test, and in doing so, became the first Indian to score a century while making his Test debut on West Indies soil.
He earned plaudits from many former veterans of the game who appreciated the patience with which he played his innings, becoming the Indian batter to face the most balls on debut as well. One of the many who lauded the young opener was former Team India cricketer Harbhajan Singh, who also made a big prediction about him.
"Yashasvi Jaiswal has had an impact straightaway in international cricket. Although he will be disappointed to have missed out on getting a double hundred, I feel we are going to see him play for India for a very long time. There's no shortage of talent and my advice to Jaiswal would be that work really hard because you have what it takes to conquer the world," said Harbhajan on his Youtube channel.
Yashasvi faced 382 balls
Yashasvi scored 171 runs in 382 balls against the West Indies with 16 fours and a six to his name. His innings left West Indies reeling as India secured an innings and 141-run victory in the first Test match. Off-spinner R Ashwin also had an important role to play with his 12 wickets in the match.
Harbhajan further added that discussions were going on about Rohit Sharma not being able to score big in 2-3 years. Speaking on the Indian skipper he said, "There was a lot of talk that Rohit hasn't scored big runs for 2-3 years, so congratulations to him. Virat also looked good for his 76. However, he will be disappointed to not have got the hundred and his fans too were eagerly waiting for him to get to that landmark."
Meanwhile, the second of two Test matches between India and West Indies will be played in Port of Spain from July 20 as the side will hope to seal a 2 -0 whitewash.
