India's new chief selector Ajit Agarkar will reportedly be travelling to the West Indies in order to meet the current head coach Rahul Dravid and captain Rohit Sharma will begin preparing their strategy for the ICC ODI Cricket World Cup 2023, to be held from October 5 to November 19.
He has not met the two bigwigs of Indian cricket and according to PTI, he is likely to join fellow selection committee member Salil Ankola in the West Indies, with the latter set to return to India after the completion of the Test series.
It is understood that when Agarkar meets Dravid and Rohit, they will discuss the strategy for the ODI World Cup and began preparations for the team as they choose the main core of 20 players for the World Cup. Earlier, when 30 players were finalized for the World Cup, then Chetan Sharma was the chief selector.
Another point that will be discussed is the fitness and workload management of the players as well as some changes that might need to be brought into the Indian team. It is understood that the issue of Jasprit Bumrah's recurring fitness issues will be discussed in detail.
Currently, the fast bowler is in rehabilitation and it is believed that he can be selected for the T20I series against Ireland, although nothing is final yet as the Sport Science and Medical Unit of the National Cricket Academy has not declared Bumrah fit to play.
Agarkar recently resigned from his post as the assistant coach for Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Delhi Capitals. Meanwhile, India will hope to seal a Test series whitewash when they commence the second Test in Port of Spain on July 20. They managed to secure a massive innings and 141-run victory over the West Indies for a brilliant start to their World Test Championship (WTC) 2023-25 cycle.
