Torrential rains played party-poopers for Team India on July 24 (Monday) in Trinidad. Day 5 of the second Test match between India and West Indies was washed out without a ball being bowled and, thus, the visitors were denied the chance to whitewash the hosts in the two-match Test series. Nonetheless, Rohit Sharma-led India secured the series and the trophy by emerging victorious by a margin of 1-0.
After the game, Indian captain Rohit spoke about how playing in different conditions poses a significant challenge but exuded happiness after the performance of his players and the team.
"Every win is different. Playing in West Indies, playing in India, has its own challenge. But I am very happy with the way things went here. Starting from Dominica and then here also. We gave it a good shot. Unfortunately, we couldn't get any play today. But there's nothing you can do about it. Things that are in your control, you can look up and do those things," said Rohit at the post-match presentation ceremony.
On day 4, Indian batters came out to bat with the intent to demolish West Indies' bowling attack and, in the process, scored quick runs in order to give themselves a chance to force a positive result. As it turned out, the rain gods had the final say as players from the teams sheltered inside their respective dressing rooms with massive downpours playing spoilsport.
"We went out with a positive intent yesterday wanting to get the result out of this game. We have played a really good Test cricket in the recent past and I hope we continue to do that. It's all about these guys having that confidence and move forward which you can see in the performance," Rohit added.
The two teams will now lock horns in a three-match ODI series before cross swords in a five-match T20I series. The ODI series is scheduled to begin on July 27.
